Ellenbrook, circa 1858, is the historic home of William Alexander Stuart, founder of the Stuart Land and Cattle Company. The home is located one mile east of Route 19 on Route 80E toward Meadowview. The landscape is complete with an English Garden and a tent pad for weddings, parties, etc. We have hosted parlor concerts, garden clubs, and more. Guided tour includes main floor and garden. A mini-museum associated with the home is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each Monday and Tuesday, displaying articles, memorabilia and artifacts associated with the Stuart family and land. A guided tour of the first floor is given by the caretakers Sam and Martha Varney. Admission is free. For information or changes in hours call 276-880-2226

  3. This home was built by my 6th great uncle Thomas Price brother of Richard Price who established the little Methodist Church there on Rt 80 close to Rt 19. Richard also was the pastor of the Church and was ordained by several Ministers including John Wesley. Richard Price was my 6th great grandfather, he lived in the Mansion that use to stand behind pizza plus on the hill in Rosedale Virginia. Footsy Pratts Mansion was built from my grandfathers blueprint, so they were the exact same house, Richard's house was torn down in 1935. Richard and Thomas settled there in the valley where the White Mansion with the legendary Colonial Roof sits in the picture. They owned 600+ acres that stretched as far east where Soul's Harbor or Lebanon Equipment use to be and as far south to the Gap in the Mountain "Hayters Gap". There father Thomas Price Sr. Road along with Daniel Boone during the Blazing Trail. Just a comment I forgot, down through the years, there was always a promise to keep the White Mansion on Rt 80 preserved for years to come. So, Smiley Rattlif who owned all the land through there including the home, he kept the promise and had it set up in his Will for an Historic organization in Abingdon or Bristol, VA after he passed away to preserve it. I've never been there to see the House and it's hand crafted beauty's or the Church. There's a book out from Big Stone Gap called The Mansions of Elk Garden, I think that's the name of it, but it's filled with amazing history of the area.

This information is to the best of my knowledge and research.
